Shift: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM CST
Compensation: $36.83 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview
HireNow Staffing is partnering with a precision manufacturing operation in Franklin Park seeking an experienced Tool Maker A with strong manual machining expertise. This role requires advanced technical skill in building, modifying, and maintaining precision tooling used in complex manufacturing processes.
This position involves hands-on machining work using manual mills, lathes, CNC equipment, and EDM systems. The Tool Maker will work closely with engineering and production teams to develop tooling solutions, correct tooling performance issues, and ensure tools meet exacting specifications.
This role is best suited for a highly skilled machinist who is comfortable working independently, maintaining tight tolerances, and troubleshooting complex tooling challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Tooling Fabrication & Precision Machining
  • Construct, repair, and modify tooling, fixtures, jigs, and special components to precise engineering specifications.
  • Perform complex machining operations using manual mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM equipment.
  • Maintain strict dimensional accuracy while holding tight tolerances required for precision manufacturing.
  • Perform precision finishing processes such as grinding, fitting, polishing, and adjustment.
Tool Modification & Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose tooling performance issues and implement corrective modifications to improve functionality.
  • Support tooling tryouts and validate performance prior to production release.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve design challenges and recommend tooling improvements.
  • Identify and correct tooling defects, wear, or dimensional inconsistencies.
Engineering Collaboration & Process Support
  • Interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and tooling designs.
  • Assist engineering teams in refining tooling designs for manufacturability and performance.
  • Provide feedback regarding tooling functionality, feasibility, and optimization opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling performance and reliability.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment, CNC machinery, and EDM systems.
  • Perform machining calculations, measurements, and adjustments to ensure precision accuracy.
  • Maintain tooling equipment and ensure safe operation.
  • Maintain organized work areas and adhere to safety standards.
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on manual machining experience in a manufacturing or tool room environment.
  • Strong experience operating manual milling machines and manual lathes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with tight tolerances and precision measurements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work directly from engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability related to tooling performance and machining processes.
  • Ability and willingness to complete written and hands-on Tool Maker A testing.
  • Stable employment history demonstrating reliability and long-term commitment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly Emphasized)
Standout candidates will possess:
  • Experience operating CNC equipment in addition to strong manual machining skills.
  • Experience with EDM equipment and tooling fabrication.
  • Background working in precision manufacturing or tool and die environments.
  • Experience modifying tooling based on engineering feedback or production requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of machining mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering and production teams on tooling solutions.
  • Ability to mentor junior machinists or support skill development.

The ideal candidate is an experienced tool maker with a strong manual machining background and a deep understanding of tooling fabrication and modification. They are confident operating manual mills and lathes, capable of troubleshooting tooling issues, and comfortable working closely with engineering teams.
This individual demonstrates technical precision, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to manufacturing quality standards.

Schedule & Work Requirements
  • First shift: 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM CST
  • Monday through Friday
  • Overtime and occasional Saturday work may be required
